Garden of Meditation
The Garden of Meditation just north of the church was dedicated in 1996 in memory of the Reverend Earl Minturn, who was rector of St. Paul’s from 1968 to 1978. Father Minturn’s wife, Ailene, wanted the garden area of the church to be a memorial to Father Minturn.
In the spring of 2012, energetic and greatly appreciated volunteers gave the garden a makeover, inspired by the concept of an attractive, peaceful "meditation garden." At St. Paul’s, we are known as the church that feeds our hungry neighbors — and WE are the only church in town with such an accessible garden space. So why not open it up to feed the souls of all? We hope it is inviting, and we welcome anyone to stop by, rest and pray, and enjoy the surroundings.
As part of the makeover, we planted new plants, removed old shrubs and added places to sit. Our goal was to add to the warm feeling that was already there. It is a garden of peace, hope and joy. The newest addition is a garden angel statue that we call Ailene, in honor of our benefactor. The gift of this garden is a living symbol of Earl and Ailene’s love and devotion to our church.
